The Malls of New York City

Reflections, Manhattan Mall

Almost any national retail store can be found somewhere in Manhattan. In fact, most of them have more than one location. But sometimes, maybe more than you want to admit, you crave the indoor shopping mall experience. You would like to walk from store to store without having to put on your coat, take off your coat, get on the subway, and get pushed into traffic by a hoard of confused tourists. Don’t worry, we do have malls here!

The Manhattan Mall at 33rd and Broadway will make you feel like you’re right back in the Midwestern suburbs of your youth. It’s small but has all the basic staples likeĀ  J.C Penney’s, Express, and Charlotte (gag me) Ruse.

The Shops at Columbus Circle might not be on fifth avenue, but they will still empty out your pockets. This high end mall (not that anyone there would ever call it a mall) includes a J.Crew, A Williams Sonoma, and a Montematre. Instead of a food court they have a Whole Foods downstairs and an assortment of eateries, bakeries, and resaurants scattered throughout.

Grand Central Terminal might not seem like your average shopping mall (unless you always took a train directly into the middle of the mall). But they have a huge variety of stores and it’s possible to stock up on anything from stationary to scarves to wine here.

Queens Center and Kings Plaza in Brooklyn areĀ  mall lover’s malls with everything you would expect in a full-size American mall. Get your fix of American Eagle, Cinnabon free samples, and Armani Exchange here.
