The Financial District, or FiDi, has long been the home of most of New York City's largest financial institutions, including the New York Stock Exchange and the site of the former World Trade Center. While it is still mainly a daytime home for the 9-5 crowd (or more like the 5 - 9 crowd for many up-and-coming financiers), it has become an increasingly residential area in the past few years, attractive for it's reasonably priced apartments equipped with many amenities that might be unaffordable in some more hip neighborhoods. FiDi lacks the lively character of some its rival NYC neighborhoods, and is not highly prized for dining or nightlife, but it's importance to much of Manhattan's business crowd means it is easily accessible by train to most other areas of the city.
