The Flatiron District is located in the south-central part of Midtown Manhattan and named for the architecturally iconic Flatiron building - one of Manhattan's oldest original skyscrapers, which pales in size-comparison to the towering buildings of today. Madison Square Park is a part of this neighborhood and includes the incredibly popular burger joint Shake Shack as well as fountains, gardens and family-friendly park events. Shopping in the area consists mainly of big-name retailers such as Victoria's Secret and Zara, but landmarks such as the Gershwin Hotel (a tribute to Andy Warhol) give it some unique character. Residentially, Flatiron includes many lofts as well as luxury condominiums, and due to its relative small-size, is a bit more expensive than some of its surrounding neighborhoods.
