Midtown East bleeds into Midtown West as you travel across Manhattan, but is slightly less dominated by high-rises and more popular for high-end and big-name retail shopping on 5th Avenue. The landscape of Midtown East is dotted mostly with glass skyscrapers for large corporations and the restaurants and bars in the area cater to a more corporate crowd. Residentially, the neighborhood ranges from the very high-end (it's home to The Trump World Tower) to many moderately-priced mid-rise doorman buildings. It's easily accessible to the rest of Manhattan and especially convenient for the many people that work in the area.
Kips Bay is a somewhat vague neighborhood just south of Murray Hill and consists mainly of moderate residential high-rises. Housing here is on the more affordable side for renters looking for a multi-bedroom spot in a standard doorman building. The area also includes a large commercial strip mall with a movie theater, Borders, Crunch Fitness and Rite Aid pharmacy.
