Morningside Heights is in the Upper West Side of Manhattan, below Harlem but above 110th Street. Most notably, Morningside Heights is home to Columbia University and thus a popular residential area for students and professors of Columbia as well as those from Barnard College, the Manhattan School of Music, and residents at St. Luke's hospital. Popular more for the academic crowd and families, Morningside Heights lacks a trendy nightlife, restaurant or retail district, but is residentially attractive for its diverse neighborhood, lower cost-of-living and relatively easy access to Midtown Manhattan. One of its most famous commercial spots is Tom's Restaurant - the diner that was featured as the façade for the character's hangout on Seinfeld.
