NoLita, named for North of Little Italy, was considered a part of its namesake neighborhood until the late 1990s, when attempts to market the area for real estate and retail purposes brought about the nickname. Trendy boutiques, upscale vintage stores and small restaurants dominate this now-hip area amidst New York landmarks such as St. Patrick's Old Cathedral and Lombardi's Pizza, regaled as one of the oldest pizzerias in Manhattan. Residentially, NoLita is similar to neighboring SoHo, and consists mostly of expensive walk-ups on streets favored for their quiet charm and lack of through-traffic.
