The Upper East Side has been known in many times as one of the more affluent areas of New York City. Today, it is still one of the most expensive landscapes for real estate in the United States with luxury high rises like Trump Palace Condominiums and single-family townhouses on some of its ritzier streets. However, the Upper East Side also generally offers several affordable housing options, many in older walk-up buildings or large apartment complexes near its northern limits. Charming for its many cafes, designer boutiques, proximity to Central Park and safe streets, and home to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim, the Upper East Side has a more conservative and family feel than some downtown areas of New York but has become increasingly popular among young professionals and students in recent years.
