A typical block on the Upper West Side consists of mainly four and five story brownstones - some single family and others for apartment rental - and is generally known as more upscale, highly desirable and family-friendly neighborhood. Cultural institutions abound in the area including the Museum of Natural History, Juilliard School of Music, Lincoln Center and the Metropolitan Opera. The tree-lined streets and proximity to Central Park make it a nice place for a stroll and its many cafes and neighborhood shops make it attractive although it lacks much of a lively young crowd or nightlife.
